A Winning Combination

It is so nice when everyone’s a winner! That is the case with Argentina’s Iguazu Falls Grand Hotel where naturalists, gamblers, hedonists and those just wanting to relax are all winners. And so are the hotel’s cocktails.

The hotel is located near the stunning Iguazu Falls, which is composed of more than 250 separate falls straddling the Argentina-Brazil border. After a full day walking the paths to gaze in awe at the power of the falls from every possible angle, we returned to the Grand Hotel where we refreshed ourselves with a massage in the spa and decided to try our luck at the hotel’s casino.

Overhearing my husband and me discussing which cocktail to order, Laura, our dealer, suggested, “Try the Casino cocktail. It’s a sure winner.” The dealer is always right! The cocktail is truly a winning combination of whiskey, triple sec, grenadine, orange juice, pineapple juice and champagne.

About 10:30 Laura advised, “You don’t want to miss the tango show in the Le Bristro Cabaret Theater. You can come back afterwards. You’ll think you’re in the Moulin Rouge in Paris. so try the Moulin Rouge cocktail.”

Seated in the front row of the beautiful theater with tiered seating, stained glass domed ceiling and touches of elegance everywhere. we ordered the Moulin Rouge. The cocktail, a smooth and exotic mix of vodka, sweet and sour, fruitilla, sugar and champagne, wasn’t the only thing that was smooth and exotic. Like the cocktail, the tango is smooth and exotic. It is seduction, passion and poetry. We vowed to learn to tango while we are in Buenos Aires.

After the show we sat at the Casino bar–not wanting to test our luck any more at the tables–and made our plans for the next day. We decided our last day would be one of pampering in the spa and relaxing around the Grand Hotel’s three-level pool sipping Casino cocktails, with a break for a walk on the nature trail, after which we will have earned a Moulin Rouge cocktail. Winning is great fun!
