Mixologist Charles Portera Creates Comforting Cocktail

Mixologist Charles Portera created the “Southern Orleans” for New Orleans restaurant the Court of Two Sisters. The tangy concoction of Southern Comfort and champagne was the official cocktail of the 2005 annual Tales of the Cocktail event.

Portera, who has been tending bar at the landmark restaurant for 13 years, began his bartending career in 1976. His inspiration for the Southern Orleans was the classic French 75 cocktail, which also includes champagne.

Southern Orleans

1 oz Southern Comfort
2/3 oz lemon sour mix
2/3 oz champagne

Shake with ice. Pour the mixture over a sugar cube into a cocktail glass. Add 1/4 oz grenadine on top and garnish with a lime wheel.
