This recipe is originally from Hollis and Clara Coomer of Egerton, Ohio, who were known to everyone as Grandma and Grandpa Coomer, hence the name. Clara brought this lemonade to a picnic after a square dance one very hot day. My mother first tasted it after she had finished a square dance set. Unaware of the alcohol content, she proceeded to rapidly down three large glasses. Later, when she could talk, she said, “I thought there was something different about it when my lips went numb!”

This cocktail is especially good served very cold on a really hot day. Watch out, though, it does tend to sneak up on you.

Grandma’s Lemonade

1 Fifth gin
1 Cup powdered sugar
1 Tablespoon lemon juice
1 Large can pineapple juice
7-up to fill gallon container

Mix all ingredients and store in refrigerator. Best served very cold, but not necessarily over ice.
