Lemon Caipirinha Brigadeiro

Brigadeiro (bree-gah-day-ro) is a popular Brazilian sweet traditionally made with condensed milk and cocoa. These mouth-watering treats have a soft and silky texture akin to a bonbon. They were created in 1940's and named after the famous Brigadier Eduardo Gomes, a presidential candidate. They were so famous and appreciated among the brigadier's entourage that these delicious sweets finally spread throughout Brazil.

Lemon Caipirinha Brigadeiro

1 tablespoon butter
1 (14 oz) can condensed milk
1 tablespoon Leblon Cachaca
lemon and lime zest
granulated sugar

In a medium saucepan over medium-low heat, combine butter, Leblon Cachaça and condensed milk. Cook the mixture until it thickens enough to show the pan bottom during stirring (it will be firm enough to stay together and not spread), about 15 minutes. Turn off the heat and add the lime and lemon zest. Stir vigorously. Pour into a dish and let cool to room temperature.

Lightly grease your hands with butter and take small amounts of candy and form
into 1 1/2 inch balls.

Roll them on sugar and lemon zest and place it into small paper cups.
