The Original Margarita?

There are many legends about the origin of the Margarita. One is that Margarita Sames invented the margarita in 1948. During a party at her cliffside hacienda in Acapulco, Margaret "Margarita" Sames began experimenting with a drink because of a challenge from her friends. Looking for something to cut the dust of a hot afternoon, she mixed tequila, Cointreau and fresh lime juice. Her cocktail kept the party going for two weeks. To this day, many agree with Margareta Sames when she declared, "A Margarita without Cointreau is not worth its salt.
