Three Margaritas for Cinco De Mayo

Medellin Margarita

In Medellín, Columbia, the native spirit, called Aguardente, has a black licorice flavor and alcohol content similar to Uzo or Sambuca. It’s a clear liquor that Colombians typically drink as shots. If the taste of black licorice doesn’t tickle your fancy then the Medellín Margarita is the perfect compromise. The lemon juice mellows the spiciness of the Aguardente but doesn’t remove all the character. This margarita is served at El Hotel Poblado Plaza Hotel in Medellín, Colombia.

3 oz Aguardente
1 oz Triple Sec
1 oz lemon juice
a splash of Grenadine

Serve frozen or with crushed ice in a salted glass with grenadine at the bottom of the glass
