The Fifth Annual International Mead Festival is
set for Friday and Saturday, February 9 and 10. The event at the
Sheraton Denver West Hotel in Lakewood, CO will host both a public
tasting of commercial meads and a private judging of commercial and
homemade mead, entries. More than
100 commercial meads will be
sampled from 30 companies, representing 18 states or provinces and
seven countries.
Mead
is growing in popularity as a cocktail mixer, blending with popular
spirits, such as rum, bourbon, vodka, and gin; liqueurs; and fruit
juices. The honey wine has been covered recently in USA Today,
Variety Magazine and other publications. More than 100
companies in the U.S. make mead and the industry has grown to an
estimated $20 million in retail sales annually. Here are some
interesting cocktails to add to your drinks repertoire. They were
created by Redstone Meadery in Boulder, Co.
