Three Cocktails from Basil’s Bar
on the Island of Mustique

Basil’s Bar started in the ’70s as a tiny rum shack perched on bamboo stilts above the shores of Britannia Bay on the Island of Mustique, is still run by the famously laid-back Basil Charles.
Basil’s Bar has expanded its walls and menu over the past 30 years into a full-service bar and restaurant. With no set hours and a welcoming vibe, Basil’s Bar has brought together everyone from German sailors to Academy Award winners. The 1,400-acre private Island of Mustique in the Grenadines in the southern Caribbean has long been a favorite hideaway for celebrities such as Princess Margaret, Mick Jagger, and Tommy Hilfiger. Here are three of the drinks they sip at Basil’s Bar

Basil’s Rum Punch
(makes 8 liters)

1 liter Orange juice
750 ml pineapple juice
3 liters strong rum
750 ml grenadine syrup
300 ml lime juice
1.5 liters water

Serve over ice in a few days. The longer it sits, the better it is.

Hurricane David
(created in 1979 to celebrate the passing of Hurricane David)

1 ½ oz vodka
½ oz white rum
½ oz red rum
Dash of creme de cocoa and lime juice

Combine and shake with ice
Serve in highball glass and hang onto your hat!

Mustique Grin

1 ½ oz Green Creme de Menthe
½ oz Rum and ½ oz Coconut Cream (substitute Pina Colada mix)
Blend with crushed ice
