Sidle up to the bar at the Wildhorse Saloon in downtown Nashville,
TN, and you’re bound to make new friends. Toast good times with the
Saloon Specialties and then learn to line dance for free every
evening (best to have your drink first).
The Wildhorse Salon is a Nashville legend,
enjoyed by more then 10 million guests, so far. I was glad to be one
of them on a recent trip to Music City. The kitschy decor and horsey
art are almost over the top, but as a total experience it is not
to be missed.
I asked my server for the most colorful
drink. “Save a horse, ride a Cowboy,” he said. At first I thought he
was giving advice about my social life or ecology. Then I realized
he was naming a popular house drink made with Malibu Rum, Midori,
Blue Curacao, orange juice and sweet and sour mix and a splash of
Sprite.
Here are some of the other specialty drinks.
Each of the drinks is generously garnished and served in a Wildhorse
Souvenir Glass
- The Boot Scoot- A stepping tango of Sweet
Southern Comfort, Peach Schnapps, Amaretto, cranberry juice and
pineapple.
- All Jacked Up - Jack Daniels, amaretto,
peach schnapps, sour mix, orange juice and Sprite.
- Redneck Woman - Dance the night away with
this blend of watermelon, vodka and Sprite.
- Lynchburg Lemonade - Heat up the night
with one of Tennessee’s oldest recipes. A blend of Jack Daniels,
Triple Sec and sweet and sour mix.
- Kerosene - Southern Comfort, amaretto,
Triple Sec, cranberry juice, Sprite and grenadine.
- Tennessee Tea - You haven’t experienced
Tennessee if you haven’t tried this old-time favorite. This
blend of Jack Daniels, Smirnoff Vodka, Beefeaters Gin, Bacardi
Light Rum and sweet and sour mix is sure to bring out the
southern in everyone.
- Who’s Your Daddy - Stoli Vanil, amaretto,
Southern Comfort, orange juice, cranberry juice and sour mix.
Besides these elaborate drinks, there is eye
candy everywhere. The band on stage, people dancing on the floor,
free line dancing lessons every night and then a whole bunch of
“characters” that make you smile even before you’ve tasted one of
the specialty drinks.
