Grey Goose Run for the Roses

Sometimes you can “read a cocktail recipe” and wonder if it’s a winner or a loser. Other times you know a winner right away—without even tasting it.

It is appropriate that Grey Goose Run for the Roses meets that standard. Being served for the fifth year running as the official Grey Goose Vodka cocktail for the Kentucky Derby, it’s a cocktail that is quick out of the gate and maintains a solid lead as it crosses the finish line.

Of course, the Derby is known for the mint julep, but this new libation should delight those horseracing fans who prefer vodka to the more traditional bourbon. Beyond its refreshing taste, it makes a handsome presentation, resplendent with a garnish of rose petals. It’s the perfect drink for any Kentucky Derby celebration, whether at the track or watching from home.

We taste tested ours at Dallas’ Hector’s on Henderson. They served it up in a martini glass which made for even more elegant sipping. Even without the race to watch, the cocktail proved to be a thoroughbred.

Grey Goose Run for the Roses
Makes 2 - 4.5 ounce drinks

3 parts Grey Goose ’Orange flavored vodka
2 parts peach brandy
2 parts southern sweet iced tea
2 parts fresh lime juice
2 rose petals for garnish
Chambord for floating

Add first four ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously until the outside of shaker is frosted and beaded with sweat. Strain into two rocks glasses filled with crushed ice. Pour Chambord so that it floats on the top of the drink. Garnish drink with rose petals.

Bonus: And for the designated driver, here’s a recipe for southern sweet iced tea: Use five tea bags for one quart of boiling water. Steep for ten minutes and add one cup of sugar while tea bags are steeping. Stir to dissolve. Place in refrigerator to cool.
