This luscious cocktail is the signature drink at the Presidente InterContinental Villa Mercedes, the newest hotel in Merida, the capital of the Yucatan peninsula and the starting point for exploring the many Mayan cultural sites in the area. Giovanna Vela, Director of Sales at the hotel, explains the inspiration for the cocktail: “One of the most important characteristics of the Mayan culture is its language, from which the name of our beverage, Mango Kalaan, originates. Mango Kalaan, which means "drunken mango," are words used in the everyday life of the Mayan people. Through special beverages like this one, we can immortalize the greatness of this culture, and of course, give it an original and delicious touch!” Mango Kalaan
Crush ice in blender. Add mango nectar, Xtabentun liqueur, rum and orange juice. Blend until smooth. Serve in a martini glass and garnish with a slice of mango. For more information about the hotel, visit www.intercontinental.com/merida
