Plymouth Gin Marks 200th Anniversary
with Double Gold Win

Plymouth Gin has been awarded a Double Gold medal in the gin category and the coveted Best of Show for overall white spirit, the highest honor bestowed upon a white spirit, by the renowned San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC) (www.sfspiritscomp.com). The SFWSC is the first international spirits judging competition held annually in the United States. This year, more than 700 spirits were entered.

“These awards are a true testament to our position as the world’s smoothest tasting gin,” said Matt Aeppli, Vice President of Marketing for The Absolut Spirits Company, Inc., importer of Plymouth Gin. Surpassing other Double Gold white spirit winners such as vodka, cachaça, tequila and white rum is an honor and positions Plymouth Gin as the next leader in the premium gin category.”

Plymouth’s new Art Deco-inspired bottle suggests the era of the 1920s and 1930s and the emergence of the cocktail lifestyle. “The new bottle reflects the resurgence of interest in classic cocktails,” said Aeppli, “We incorporated feedback from high-profile bartenders to ensure the feel of the current bottle, but with a modern twist.”

The decanter-style bottle has cut glass and round edges reminiscent of Art Deco, integrated with contemporary features and motifs associated with the brand, such as the Mayflower ship and monk.

Hand crafted in small batches, Plymouth Gin is made using the original 18th century recipe. For more than 200 years, this recipe has been passed down from one generation of head stillman to the next, in what is now England’s oldest working distillery. Once the favourite of Franklin Roosevelt, Plymouth Gin is the only gin with a geographic designation, meaning it can only be produced in Plymouth, England.

Two thousand six is the 200th anniversary of Plymouth Gin. Mixologist Jacques Bezuidenhout of Harry Denton’s Starlight Room in San Francisco created The Starlight 200 in honor of the milestone.

The Starlight 200

3/4oz Leacock’s Madeira
1/2oz Otima 10yr Tawny Port
Dash of Angostura Bitters

Stir ingredients in a mixing glass and strain into a cocktail glass.
