Hot Brazilian Spotted in Miami and LA

Forget yesterday’s caipirinhas. The “it” crowd at Bahia, Four Seasons Hotel Miami’s open air bar and lounge, has chosen the Brazilian batida as the hot new drink. The trendy drink comes to Miami by way of the West Coast, where it is already a success, having been touted as one of the most divine cocktails of the season in Los Angeles magazine.

A longtime favorite on Brazilian beaches, batidas are creamy concoctions likely to please everyone. The coconut, strawberry and kiwi versions of the drink served at Bahia are prepared using a traditional Brazilian recipe where the fruit pulp is blended with cachaça (sugarcane brandy) or vodka.

Here’s the strawberry version:

1 cup of strawberry pulp (frozen or fresh mashed strawberries)
3 tablespoons of condensed milk
1 teaspoon of lemon juice
4 ounces of cachaca or vodka
Blend all in the ingredients in blender and serve over ice. Yields 4

Bahia bar and lounge is located on the seventh floor pool terrace of the Four Seasons Hotel overlooking the Miami skyline and Biscayne Bay. A lively outdoor lounge with an atmosphere reminiscent of a happening South Beach night spot, it features Latin American and Spanish tapas and specialty drinks
