I want to like martinis. So I keep trying them in different ways to try to find one that I like. I have felt in recent months my desire to find a likeable traditional martini slipping and have caught myself saying outright negative and dismissive remarks about the whole category. However, the Morton’s Mortini is a radiant beam of hope. This was the best traditional martini I’ve ever had. And it’s the only one thus far that I really enjoyed. So what made it so outstanding? Most significantly it was the Hendrick’s gin. Other factors may have been the blue cheese stuffed olives or the lack of vermouth. Maybe it was the way it was shaken. More importantly, I can now cease my wandering about the globe looking for a martini I like. I have found a martini home and great relief in the Morton’s Mortini. The recipe for this muy picante, tongue grabber was conceived during a hangover induced epiphany while mixologist Ryan Wilbanks was on his honeymoon. If spiciness cures ailments, this drink must cure hangovers and a plethora of other illnesses. It’s not for the faint of heart and isn’t on the drink menu so ask for it by name at Morton’s Dallas location. Spicy Dirty Bloody Mary
The ginger in this variant of the Margarita is striking and balances the sweetness of the drink without stealing the strawberry bouquet. The 1800 is great fit. Try the Strawberry Gingerita with some tapas, sushi and a side of hip-hop at RA Sushi. Visit www.rasushi.com. Strawberry Gingerita
Shiso Naughty yet sweet, too. Pair this RA
Sushi signature drink with some seared tuna sushi. Shiso Naughty
