Martini Variations
A Martini is mostly cold gin with a whisper of dry vermouth, stirred until it’s properly chilled and diluted. That’s the classic below. Over the years “martini” has also come to mean almost anything served up in a V-shaped glass, and plenty of the riffs here are that kind: vodka-based, fruit-forward and shaken. They’re good drinks; they just aren’t trying to be a dry Martini.

Ingredients
- 2 oz (60 ml) gin
- ⅓ oz (10 ml) dry vermouth
Steps
- Stir the gin and vermouth with ice in a mixing glass until well chilled.
- Strain into a chilled martini glass.
- Squeeze the oil from a lemon peel over the top, or garnish with an olive.
